I have thus far introduced the term "Leyline Engineering" as an
alternate to the more ambiguous term of "Scrying" which represents a number of
problems from a strictly rhetorical standpoint. For one thing the term "scrying"
has been used historically to define the more passive art of "gazing" which
certainly plays a part in all energy creation/manipulation operations but is not
our special emphasis here. I will confess that I am not 100% satisfied with the
term Leyline Engineering either but it serves my purposes much better than the
former "scrying" and may be useful in terms of establishing a precedent for the
craft of leyline manipulations as a technological application based upon logical
criterion the same as any other technological application, albeit a much loftier
context than most. "Weaving" is a secondary alternate but still lacks the
technological savvy vital to this whole discussion. We aren't just knitting
socks here, etc...
There are essentially two approaches most often taken to this
kind of operation: The Geometrical (or topological) and the Numerological (or
chronological). In either case there are inevitably certain symmetries that
especially intrigue us that we wish to "amplify" in some way so as to gain a
better sense of their properties and also harness their qualities as much as
possible. The establishing of formulaic leylines allows us to delve deeply into
the essential "body language" of a given symbolic constitution, making it
possible to commune with that manifest symbolic archetype on a higher plane than
conventional reasoning or language itself allows. When dealing with conventional archetypes
(godforms, angels, demons etc),
this is most often referred to as "assuming the mantle" of the form itself and
provides us with a means of exploring its hidden mysteries in ways that will
almost always culminate in a much more personal and powerful understanding than
is possible to achieve by any other means. Assuming the mantle of an archetype
is significantly different than evoking it to visible manifestation per se,
since we are actually merging with that archetype and exploring reality through
its own eyes. In order to grasp how this can be achieved with a
non-anthropomorphic ( i.e., symbolic) archetype, you have to first come to terms
with the fact that there is no such thing as an "inanimate object". From a
magickal perspective, everything has its own kind of intelligence and certain
"symbols" are significantly more intelligent even than gods.
Leyline Engineering always follows a certain agenda, which will
vary in terms of specific areas of focus but remain identical in terms of
underscoring assumptions and/or "first principles". It is useful to break these
down periodically to examine or reexamine them at their base, since occasionally
we may discover an error or else an omission in one or another of our starting
assumptions. The tantric approach to magick and alchemy is unique in its
essential fearlessness before the naked facts of life. It does not fear error
and it does not run from personal doubt on any level at all, since these are
vital building blocks in the final attaining of "right thinking", which,
together with "right action" is alone capable of achieving the truth of any
question whatsoever. So it is always advisable to be aware of your starting
assumptions and be willing to scrutinize them at a moment's notice. Among our
"first principles" are certain assumptions regarding the nature of Leylines
themselves, so I will outline some (but not all) of these here:
(1): In general, we assume that a thing exists if we say it
exists. This goes for anything at all up to and including completely ridiculous
things like winged pink elephants with ten heads on roller skates etc. The exact
nature of its existence may not always be clear at once, but we do allow that
the projection of a thing is sufficient to render it "real".
(2): There is nothing that can be imagined that cannot also be
accomplished. This does not inherently inform us of everything that will need to
be negotiated to accomplish it, but we do allow that if the mind can sustain the
projection itself, the greater material manifestation of that projection can and
will eventually be realized.
(3). The highest rungs of light and sound energy always travel
in perfect cycles. Only lesser rungs are capable of finite progressions at the
unavoidable cost of accelerated entropic dissolution.
(4): The completion of whole and unbroken energy cycles forms
the basis of energy expansion. Concurrently, gaps or stops in whole energy
cycles forms the basis of energy regression.
(5): Higher strata's of energy filtered synchronistically
through lesser strata's has the general effect of purging and upgrading whole
anatomical systems. This means that if we can effectively draw energy from a
highest point of origin, filter it through lesser strata's and return it whole
and unbroken, we can expect both a purification and an amplification of energy
along the entire path that it has traveled.
(6): The less embellished a line can be, the less encumbered it
will also be. This means that we want our lines to be as simply and as clearly
defined as possible, affording us the greatest possibility of success.
At some point I will have to take the time to try to outline all
of these core assumptions, but for the moment, these are the ones that seem to
jump to the forefront of this discussion. From these starting assumptions, it
should be reasonably clear what we are hoping to accomplish with this kind of
visualization practice. By consciously tapping energy at the highest levels we
can define and systematically "weaving" that energy throughout the Body of Light
as a whole in the most efficient manner available to us, we can expect a gradual
upgrading of the entire mechanism, leaning in the direction of the highest
gradations of light and sound continuum. It is difficult to estimate for certain
what the end-result of this may be but in general it has always been an
alchemical assertion that a "transmutation" of baser matter into higher matter
should ultimately prevail. This is the meaning behind the hermetic alchemical
principle of turning "lead into gold". Alchemy has generally maintained that our
success is contingent upon our methods...that there is no outside agent of any
kind that can effectively expedite this process so much as it is finally up to
us to accomplish all things according to the manner in which they can in fact be
accomplished. If "god" is finally more accessible to us from the within than the
without, then it is ultimately incumbent upon us to summons the god within and
put it to the task of resolving all external dichotomies.
